Measure & Make
Garden projects

Your fence, figured out.

Start with a straight run of fencing. We’ll count the panels and posts, show the fit, and put together your shopping list.

For one straight run with a post at each end. For gates or corners, plan each straight section separately and account for shared posts.

Use the actual width on the product specification.
This planner assumes panels fit between the posts.
Post mix & existing posts
Only count sound posts in the positions this layout needs.

A look at the numbers

What’s included in your estimate?

How we count panels and posts

For N panels, the total run is N × panel width + (N + 1) × post width. We find the smallest whole number of panels that covers your run, counting both end posts. If needed, the final panel is shortened to fit. If the additional post leaves no usable final bay, the available width is shared equally between all panels instead. Brackets and installation gaps are not included.

Why post mix is an adjustable allowance

Different products and hole sizes need different quantities. We multiply your bags-per-post allowance by the number of new posts, add your extra percentage, then round the total up to whole bags. We do not infer a universal yield from a bag’s weight.

Before ordering, check your selected product’s coverage table. Blue Circle’s Postcrete product information is one manufacturer reference; other products can have different instructions.

A worked example

For a 12 m run, 1.8 m panels and 100 mm posts: 7 panels and 8 posts fit the length. Six bays are 1.8 m wide and the last is 0.4 m. At an example allowance of 2 bags per new post plus 10% extra, the total is 18 bags. Check whether your panel design can be shortened.

What if I have a gate, a corner or existing posts?

Measure each straight section separately. A gate needs its own opening and support design. Two sections may share a corner post, so avoid counting it twice. Existing post positions may change the bay widths; this layout does not check their locations or condition.
